It started in our family
I am the founder of Gardenix, and I grew up with a mother who had been a skilled gardener since she was young. That meant years of learning to read exactly what a plant is trying to tell you. It was hard going. She often taught us by handing over the watering can or the pot and correcting us on the spot, the moment we got something wrong again.
Later on, the rest of the family had the opposite experience. On my now wife's side, and among a lot of our friends, houseplants died. Something would go wrong, no one could work out what, and a few weeks later the plant was on the compost heap. It carried on like that for years. Most of the women in our family love plants and flowers, and they were close to giving up on them for good. It felt like the wrong way for that to end, and we did not want to let them down.
So the first version was a private website for our own family. A place where you could look at a plant that was struggling and get a specific answer instead of a general care sheet.
What we ended up creating
It took far longer than we planned. Months of work, a great many nights without proper sleep, and one decision we made right at the start: we did not want to create another general plant analyser. If an answer is not accurate enough for you to act on, there is no point creating it.
Gardenix identifies the plant, works out from a photo what is wrong with it, and takes you through the fix step by step. The treatment plan is matched to how serious the problem looks. Over time Gardenix grew well beyond houseplants. Today it covers garden plants and trees, lawns, weeds and flowers, weather alerts, recovery tracking, and a chat that can tell you a great deal when you are stuck in the garden and that remembers your particular plants, so the answer is properly specific.
Honesty built into the app
Two decisions matter more to us than any single feature. The first is that every diagnosis carries a confidence score. When the app is not sure, it says so openly, rather than labelling the wrong problem with total certainty and costing you a week in which you could still have stepped in.
The second is clear, understandable pricing. The first 3 scans are yours free forever, with no countdown to pay and no need to enter a card. No auto-renewing trial that quietly takes your money on day eight. You know what you are paying for and when.
Who is behind Gardenix
Gardenix is created by ALTF4 s.r.o., a small independent studio. We have no capital behind us and no department dedicated to growth. We are a small team of people who wanted an app like this to exist and to help, and we can keep improving it thanks to the people who choose to pay for it.
What we want to achieve
Help people keep their plants healthy, and give them a clear, direct answer when something goes wrong. The garden from A to Z. Gardenix as your personal helper. That is our whole mission.
If Gardenix saves a plant that was already destined for the bin, it has done its job.
Thank you for supporting our small team. That is exactly what lets us keep working on new features.
